With sugars in One Square Meal totalling 17.1% by weight, can it be eaten by diabetics?

For diabetics, one of the most important aspects of a food is its impact on blood glucose levels rather than its sugar content. Originally, diabetics were told to avoid sugar, but it is not so clear cut. Blood glucose response depends onthe type of sugar, and complex carbohydrate can impact blood glucose levels as much as simple sugars. If a food contains protein, fat and dietary fibre as well as carbohydrate these other nutrients will lower the blood glucose response of a food.

Our Apricot with Manuka Honey and Cranberry with Blackcurrant One Square Meals have a low glycaemic index, which means the energy they provide raises blood glucose slower, to a lesser degree and maintains blood glucose levels for longer than a high glycemic index food, so it should bean appropriate food for a diabetic. Our Chocolate with Manuka Honey One Square Meal has a moderate glycemic index.

That said, we think it’s important if you are diabetic that you review the ingredients list and nutrition information panel in order to make the appropriate choice for your specific condition. If at all in doubt we suggest you seek advice from your medical / nutritional advisor.
